Born and raised in Barrington, Rhode Island, 28 April 1949. Briefly discusses his attendance of Marrietta College, Marietta Ohio, and his work there with local cable television station as his entree into journalism. His move to Washington DC in August 1971, to attend the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, his first sexual appearances and initial coming out. His work with the State Department, his overseas posting in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and later work on the press team at the State Department during Kissinger's tenure.
